The best pools in the world

31.12.2020

2020 hasn’t been the year that we expected. As we’ve all needed to stay indoors, overseas travel has very much taken a backseat.

Along with everyone, we’ve had some challenges this year at VouchForMe. As we’ve had to work from home and all our events have moved online. Still, we’ve had some successes. 2020 has seen us partner with telematics experts Crossyn, host a series of webinars, and best of all, we’ve launched our brand new team insurance, allowing groups of drivers to save on their car insurance by making use of a team pool.

Maybe we miss traveling right now, but this got us wondering, where are the best pools in the world? The four we found are quite spectacular.

Here’s to a better 2021. We hope you’ll be able to visit one of these incredible places!

The Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Located on the Isle of Skye to the north-west of Scotland, the Fairy pools are difficult to get to, but as you can see from the picture, well worth the trip. According to legend, a member of Clan MacLeod married a fairy princess, which led to many places on the island being named after fairies. If you’re feeling brave, you can take a dip in the freezing water. Just watch out for the selkies (Shapeshifting fairies that take the appearance of seals.) that are rumored to frequent the pools.

The Blue Lagoon – Iceland

The second pool on our list is just as remote and equally stunning, but much much warmer. Iceland’s blue lagoon is one of its most popular tourist attractions, with over a million visitors each year. The lagoon’s water temperature ranges from 37 to 40 degrees celsius, so think of it as the world’s largest bath.

While still beautiful, most natural pools have been somewhat shaped by human hands as they become more popular, but not the Giola Lagoon in Greece. The sea around it has entirely shaped this natural pool. Swimming here isn’t for the faint-hearted. To get to the lagoon, it’s a trek over the rocky cliffs, and once you’re there, you need to jump in. All of this makes for a unique swimming experience.

Grotta della Poesia, Roca Vecchia, Italy

Italy’s poetry caves take their name from the following tale. A young princess loved to come and swim in the clear waters of the cave. Local poets would go here and read her poetry in an attempt to win her affections. While the caves are no longer as exclusive as they once were, we can’t think of a more beautiful swimming spot.

VouchForMe’s Team Pool

While we still can’t travel, make sure you check out our very new and exciting pool, VouchForMe’s team pool. With team insurance, you can partner with friends and colleagues to get the best possible car insurance deals. Leaving you with enough money left over to visit one of the four countries above. 2020 is almost over, and while the coronavirus has dominated this year, with vaccines around the corner, there’s hope that 2021 won’t be as bleak. So from all the team at VouchForMe, happy new year.
